The main functions of the Registrar's division include, but are not limited to providing administrative, legal and secretarial services to the University Senate, Council and the Executive. The division is also responsible for the dissemination, implementation and maintenance of University-wide policies, procedures and systems.

More specifically the Registrar's division:-

Provides an administrative/secretarial service to Senate, Council and the Executive by:

  • servicing Senate, Council, the Executive and related University wide committees,
  • ensuring that records of all Senate, Council and Executive meeting are taken, disseminated and retained and
  • ensuring effective access to such information as has been retained.

Protects the University for legal risks by

  • Ensuring the development and implementation of written procedures, rules and guidelines for drawing up of legal agreements, and
  • Ensuring that all legal agreements and contractual relationships (other than those related to human resource and research issues) are screened/vetted by the legal adviser. 

Administers centralised policies, procedures, systems and information databanks (other than those pertaining to financial or human resource matters) by:

  • disseminating and maintaining the rules of procedures
  • ensuring that the University complies with all copyright requirements. 

Is responsible, when necessary, for effecting amendments to the Statute for submitting these to the Minister and the Department of Education for approval. 

Is responsible for administering the process by which honorary graduands are elected. 

Is responsible for ceremonial functions such as graduation ceremonies.

Is secretary to convocation of the University

Is responsible for maintaining records of membership associations and other bodies and for the payment of subscriptions to such bodies and to publishers of publications.

Is responsible for revision of the terms of reference, composition and updating of the standing committees of Council and Senate.

Maintenance of records of committee decisions at all levels.
